THE POP GROUP has decided to move its launch party/fundraiser to THE GARRISON, which is much more live music amenable. The change of venue necessitates that we also move the date, from Friday, March 16th to Thursday, March 15th, and we’re also changing the admission to $10 in advance, or $12 at the the door.
We are very excited about these changes, and are looking forward to an amazing night filled with incredible music.
The unfortunate side effect of the date change is the loss of our friend MURRAY FOSTER as a performer; Murray has another show that night with his new band, The Cocksure Lads. We strongly encourage you to contribute to the KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN for Murray’s up-coming film.
We’d also like to announce the addition of two acts to the bill:
THE DIRTY DISHES are a brilliant bluegrass/old-time country-gospel act with a phenomenal live show.
Check out their cover of the great Neil Young song, After the Gold Rush:
LOCAL 164 is a great acoustic trio made up of Jenny Young, Gordon Bolan, and Jason O’Brien. We’ll have some music from Local 164 for you to check out in the near future.
LOCAL 164 and THE DIRTY DISHES are joining a pair of stellar acts:
NORTH, a folk duo in the vein of The Roches -they weren’t a household name, but mention them to any folkie and watch their eyes light up- featuring Kate Hewlett and Christopher Stanton.
WILL CURRIE & THE COUNTRY FRENCH are one of Canada’s very best bands, proteges of Sloan and past tour mates of Dan Mangan, Tokyo Police Club, Arkells, Our Lady Peace, Zeus, Hey Rosetta!, Said The Whale, and many more. Now Magazine called their full-length debut, Awake, You Sleepers! “…an undeniably addictive listen and a promising debut from a young Canadian band worth checking out.” Pop Matters says “…Awake, You Sleepers! may be the most invigorating pop listen of 2011, ” and “Rejoice! This is the pop record for those who thought pop was a dead art.” And Exclaim! says that Awake! You Sleepers “…tap(s) into the pop rock holy trinity of the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Big Star, with a little Cheap Trick thrown in for good measure.”
